Resizing help needed

PhotoShop & Editing Tips, Tricks and Tutorials Forum - www.photography-forum.org
I appreciate this has probably been asked before, and I've been resizing my images a while now, but I am beginning to wonder if my end product is losing a little sharpness. I take pictures of sport, and my usual routine is as follows:

1) Photoshop - Resize the images to 1500px x 1000px

2) Photoshop - Using the crop tool on photoshop, I will not always crop the whole image, for instance if the action is in the middle of the image, with trees or background that is unnecessary, I will crop to the edge of the action, not the whole picture.

3) Then use the sharpen edges tool

4) Save the image

My images coming off the camera are 5472px x 3648px.

This routine will reduce my images from 7-10meg down to 1-2 meg, which also helps with download speeds, when uploading to social media galleries etc.

I've been doing this a while, but am beginning to notice that on certain social media sites the images distort if you try to enlarge the picture in any tiny little way.

Is 1500px x 1000px enough for FB, twitter, Flickr etc?

Any advice / thoughts much appreciated.
