I need a new video camera. Which one?
I have a JVC GZ-HM40BU. It's decent but I like to record concerts and I'm in a situation where I could use a better one. I live in a small community that has a theater and I've been volunteering on what we used to call in school the "AV" department. I help set up the stage (monitors, direct boxes, xlr wiring) and often end up doing spotlights during the show. I'm in a sort of unique position to record the shows, and I often do. No big bands, mostly local bands, some tribute bands, etc.
What I need is a better recorder that handles low and just odd light better - colors, some areas bright, some darker. Also, I want good built in mikes, maybe adjustable instead of just auto. We also have an audio assist system (ALD I think it's called?) and while it wouldn't be easy to patch directly into the board, I could use the ALD system if I have a recorder has aux input. We do have a mono system, so maybe one channel could be ALD, and one mike. The theater is small enough so that the house mix probably isn't ideal by itself.
Or I have Zoom H2 and I suppose I could plug the ALD into that, and later somehow mix in the ALD with the mikes from the recorder?
Oh, one more thing. My JVC only records when the display window is open. That is a no-no. I want the new one to record whether the viewport is open or closed. I'll tell it when to stop recording.
Any suggestions appreciated.
