Glass or Camera - a comparison
Just for curiosity I carried out a little exercise today to compare the Canon 5D Mk1 and 6D Mk1 and was trying to establish how much better the latest 70-200mm f/2.8 lens is that the older 70-200mm f/4.
All photos were taken hand held in less than two minutes and all at 1/320 sec, f/8, ISO 200 and at 100mm focal length. I chose f/8 and 100mm focal length as being the sort of halfway point with both lenses and all photographs have been processed the same way with the 6D's images being made proportionally smaller due to coming out of the camera at a larger size.
What I found interesting and granted we don't get to see the full size of the images here but even at full size there is really very little difference, apart from colour. Even pixel peeking doesn't show much difference, if any.
Makes you wonder sometimes why we spend the money we do. Until we get into dark conditions of course - and that's why we open up the wallets to wide apertures.
