Canon 28mm f2.8 odd problem.

I have a Canon 28mm f2.8, the original EF one not the IS, and I experienced a strange problem, when I take the filter off the lens stops focusing at about 2 feet, put the filter or the lens hood back on and it goes all the way to under 1 foot.
Anybody got any idea what could be causing this. Related messages Hi! Is anyone familiar as to how the Canon 35mm f2 compares with the Canon 28mm f1.8 in sharpness? Are u happy with the lens as well (depending on which one u own)?Thank u.
Seems like an odd omission, possibly the only one, in the entire canon line up. Any rumours they are making one?

Anyone have experience with this one? My copy has a slightly yellow cast and I'm worried it might be gassing. Images don't look particularly soft and I don't see any signs of fungus or haze, so I'm assuming that's not the problem.
