Camera v lens help

Photography & Camera Basics Forum - www.photography-forum.org
Hello, I'm trying to up my photography game and I've come to a grinding halt.

This might be a total novice mistake but I can't work out what's going wrong.

I have a Sony NEX-F3 which came with two lenses, a prime and a zoom.

After a while experimenting with these I want to try some shooting with a telephoto lens.

So instead of spending a lot of money on a new Zeiss lens straight away, I thought I'd see how I got on with a cheaper model first.

I bought one on eBay, listed as Pentacon Fast 135mm A7s A6000 with an E-mount adapter.

It fits onto my camera, clunking into place nicely.

But although the screen shows what the lens sees, when I press the capture button it gives me an error message 'attach the lens correctly'.

I have changed the camera's settings onto manual focus but still have the same problem.

Could you tell me if I am missing something please. I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that the e-mount adapter would make this lens useable with my camera. Am I wrong - and if so what should I look for if I want to try another second-hand lens?

Or is it as simple as the adapter not being fitted properly (although, as I said, it seems to lock into place without any problems).

Thanks for your help!
