Actual experiences with Zeiss Biogon 53mm f/4.5?
I got this lens some time ago on eBay. It was completely dis-assembled (as in the shutter was in many pieces, and the seller thought some were missing). I thought, 'Hey, I could use that on my Speed Graphic even if the shutter is wrecked.' Or I figured, if the glass was in good shape, I could work on getting it in a 'new' shutter. The seller said the glass did not look clean, though it was scratchless, and I thought that maybe whatever it was could be cleaned up, or just lived with.
But I also figured someone else would be thinking the same thing, so I only bid about $40 as a sort of lark. I ended up getting it for a little more than $30.
It turns out that all of the shutter was there, but bits were actually broken, as though someone else had tried to modify it in some way. But I was able to get it back together in such a way that it is fine as a barrel lens with a working iris (with click stops, even). Unfortunately, even after having it professionally cleaned (which cost twice what I paid for it), there is still some internal haze somewhere in the rear cell. The repair person said it was too risky to try to get at it.
My question is, can anyone describe any experiences actually using this lens? I've found images online, but would like to read what users think. I know it is not supposed to cover 4x5, but I'm wondering about 6 x 12.
