Starting out with colour reversal (E6) film - what film and where to process?

Everything Film - www.amateurphotographer.co.uk
Hello all,

I've had an itch to try slide film for years and now I've decided I need to have a go. I have two questions: which films do you recommend and where do I get it processed on a budget? I'm looking for a film with ISO from 100-400 for use in natural light, mainly outside. I like contrasty films with subtle grain if it helps. As for the processing, I would like to have my slides mounted so I can scan them myself more easily (and maybe project them with my Pradovit if I feel like it!).

Thanks,

Kitchen10

PS. I do have a roll of expired (mid-noughties) Kodak ISO 100 slide film somewhere, I believe it's Elite Chrome Professional. It hasn't been refrigerated and I know nothing of its history. What would you do with it?

PPS. I'm on a starving student's budget, so please don't direct me to somewhere that costs an arm and a leg!

PPPS. I'd love to set up my own darkroom but my parents have a devout hatred of film photography for reasons unknown. Hence, processing it myself isn't an option.
