Canon - Canon users with new "coded" batteries

Photography Tips, Tricks & Tutorials Forum - www.photography-forum.org
This would include 750D(Rebel T6i), 760D(Rebel T6s), 77D, M3 and possibly more. It has been known that you can use third party batteries in your cameras even without the coding.

When the camera turns on, and this takes a couple of seconds longer than normal, it asks if the battery has a Canon logo to which you have to say no, then it gives a warning that any non-Canon could cause problems, do you wish to use to which you answer yes.

It does this whenever you put a third party battery in, but only the first time you power up after replacing the battery.

The real downside is that it does not show how much battery life is left. I would recommend third party batteries, if you choose to use them, as your backups for this reason.

If you have a battery grip, the install it slightly longer. After a few seconds on power up it says "check the connectivity between grip and camera before pressing set" it also gives an OK box on the screen. If you press SET it then takes another second or two before going into the battery warnings mentioned above.

Other notes: the Canon charger will not charge the third party batteries and the third party charger will not charge the Canon batteries. Yes, this is annoying!

Yes, I did just get third party batteries, why do you ask? I purchased two 1300mah (Canon are 1040mah) and a charger for about $20 where I could have purchased two Canon batteries for $73 each or $146+tax of 13% on top. The $20 was tax free but did take 2.5 weeks from China.

I will only use these for a backup and will not take the charger with me on vacation, I would charge them before and take the Canon charger.
