Getting the perfect balance........

Talk Equipment - www.talkphotography.co.uk
Apologies if this has been covered, I did do a search but couldnt find anything.....

I currently own a 7D mkii and 5D mkiii - previously owning a 1D mkii and 5D mkii combo but im not convinced these are the best for what I use.

I shoot mostly airshows with planes at around 700mph but also wildlife which means crawling about before first light where high ISO is required.

I am looking to replace one of the bodies and have narrowed things down to the 1DX or the 5D mkiv but I'm stuck....

The 7D is ok, but i find results inconsistent with the big whites, especially on burst mode. the 5d mkiii is amazing all round, even if it doesn't have the speed. Noise is rubbish on the 7D and fixing it in lightroom can compromise the image. Its great if you shoot in full daylight with fast shutter speeds.

My friend uses the 1DX and swears by it. He shoots much higher ISO than I do with cleaner images which I am envious of.

The 1DX is also very home at an airshow but coming home with 3000+ photos with the 7D I'm mindful to be a bit more selective on shots taken rather than spray and pray.

So, the dilemma is with the 1DX being better at high ISO than the 5D mkiv? or is the new 5D king? vs the lower resolution of the 1DX worth the better autofocus capabilities.

I know airshows and wildlife are poles apart but any advice appreciated. I need something that is excellent in low light, with good autofocus and can also keep up with planes.

I will keep one body of the 7d and 5d mkiii, again not sure which. If I get a 1DX then the 7D will go, if I get a 5D mkiv then the mkiii would be a bit redundant.

I mostly use the 100-400 4/5.6 IS ii and the 400mm DO IS ii (sometimes with extender).

One other scenario that has crossed my mind is the 1D mkiv...... (bear with)... with the 1.3 crop sensor that will give me extra reach on the telephoto's without the need for extenders and 16mp isn't too bad either.

I'd like to keep two bodies, especially for air shows, as the zoom ability is very handy and a super sharp prime is highly valued.

Sorry for the ramblings - I hope this makes sense.
