LR5 and Backing Up Images?

Retouching Forum: Digital Photography Review - forums.dpreview.com
I know how to back up my LR catalog, and I do it regularly.  In addition, I back up my images to an external hard drive.  The problem is that when I have a jpg image that I have edited in LR, the edited version is not backed up (as an image).  I would like my external drive to be a full backup of all of my images, and be completely independent of LR.

Is there any way to easily create files for every jpg image that I edit?

I understand that the external backup will not contain all the steps I went through to edit/improve the images.

Thanks,

-barry
